IMPROVEMENT IN PRICES.
Messrs Dalgety & Co. report on their Feilding sale held yesterday : Sheep; Cull lambs 8s Id, mixed lambs small 5s Id to 5s 9d, other sorts 7s 3d to 7 a lid,'2-tooth wethers 10s 4d, 4, 6 and fresh f.m. ewes 3s 2d, f.m. ewes 6s 6d to 7s9d. Cattle; Yearling 'steers 80s to £3, 3-year steersS 3 13s 6d to £3 15s, 18-months Shorthorh-Hereford £3 13s, 18-moJaths 'Shorthorn-Hereforu heifers £3 Os 6d, 3 and 4-jfear steers £8 16s.', . • • , ’ • The Loan and Meroantile; Agency Co., Ltd., report for week ending 80th April, 1909: At Feilding on Friday we yarded about 2000 sheep and a medium entry of cattle : Bidding at auction was brisk and prices showed marked improvement on late rates. Lambs and wethers sold free and good condition awes were sought after. Quotations: —Sheep: Cull ewes 3s to 5s fid. ewes in lamb 7s 3d to Bs, 3 and 4-tooth wethers 11s to 11s 3d, 2tocth wethers 9s Id to 9s Bd, fat ■wethers to 11s Bd, cull wethers 6s Bd, empty ewes 7s 4d, fat ewes to 9a. Cattle: 3-year heifers in calf £3 2s Od, forward bullocks £5 4s 6d, 3year bullocks £4, 2^-year steers £3, store cows 28s, stags £4 ss. At Apiti on Tuesday we had a good yarding of sheep and a fair entry of cattle. A batter tone prevailed throughout the sale and stock sold freely. Quotations:— -Sheep: Mixed lambs small 4s 4d to 5s 7d, wether lambs 6s 2d to 7s Bd, ewe lambs good to 9s Id, cull ewes 3s 7d, empty ewes 6s, ewes in lamb 5s to 9a lOd, 3-tooth wethers 10s 3d to 10s 6d, weaner steers 18s to SOs, yearlings to 86s 6d, 18-mouth steers to 88s, fat cows £a,ss to £4 2s, 2-year steers £3 17s to £2 19a, 3-year {steers £4, fat heifers £5 Is. A large number of sundries made usual rates. Mr Miller’s furniture sale in the Apiti Hall was well attended and made good prices. Messrs Gorton & Sen [report:--At Balls on Monday we had a very large attendance of buyers and a good sale resulted. Wethers and lambs sold well and we have to record an almost total clearance. At Hnnterville on Tuesday we had a particularly gpod yarding of sheen, cattle and horses, all of Jwliioh fofind a ready sale at an increase on late rates, ’ more particularly young cackle and wethers. Mr R. JJH.. Aid worth’s Shorthorn weaners made'36s 6d, yearling heifers £3 14s 6d, 3-year heifers £3 10s and a , peoially good lot of fat and forwards wethers on behalf of Mr Alex Oraw>ford were sold to Mr J. Yoyoe of Silverhope at 13s. The unbroken horses sold on behalf of Mr J. Lourie realised splendid prices as compared With prices ruling at the large centres. At Feilding yesterday we had a heavy yarding of both sheep and cattle. The attendance, which included several outside buyers, was good, and bidding throughout the sale was spirited. Prices still show an upward tendency, and the demand for all classes of sheep is good. We have to report a total clearance of aheep under the hammer. We quote :—At Bulls; Empty ewes 6s to 7s 3d, low conditioned ewes in lamb 5s 7d, cull ewes 4s, 3-tooth wethers 9a lid to 10s, mixed lambs' 5s to 7s lid, fat sheep 10s 3d, Springing caws £6, light fac cows £3 7s 6d to £3 10Si old cows 15s to 21s, 18-month heifers 20a to 82s, 18-months steers £2 ss, weaners 10s 6d to. 11s fid, Bulls SOs to £2. At Hnnterville : Gull lambs 2s Id. mixed lambs 5s 3d Lincoln ram lambs ils. 2-tooth ewes in lamb 10s, f.m. ewes in lamb gs 5d to 9s 4d, 2-th wethers 8s 9s 8d 9s lid. Messrs Abraham & Williams report :—At Feilding yesterday wa had a medium yarding of sheep and a good yarding of oatfc’e. There was a good attendance and stock all round was in favour of the vendor. We quote 2 tooth wethers 10s, 10s 2d, 10s 8d to 10s iOd, fat ewes 9s 6d to 9s Bd, 3 tooth ewes small 9a 7d to 10s 4d, cull lambs 4s to 4s 6d, f.m. ewes in lamb Bs, 8s 6d to 9s 4d. PALMERSTON NORTH WOOL, SKIN AND HIDE SALE.
Messrs Abraham & Williams, Ltd*., report as follows We hold our visual monthly sale on Friday, and a catalogue comprising 50 bales and bags of wool, 1400 skins, 60 oalt skins and 450 largo hides and nsnal quantities of tallow and sundries, was offered to a good attendance of buyers. Wool and skin sold readily but hides were dull of sale. The whole catalogue was sold, however, at prices , which compare favourably with late sales. Quotations-Wool, crossbred medium 4%d to 6d, lambs 5%d to6d, looks 2%d to dead 4%d to sd, black 4%d, pieces 3d, 3%d to 4d.
