Notices. MARTON MAYORAL ELECTION. - TO THE LADIES AND GENTLEMEN SIGNING THE REQUISITION ASKING ME TO CONTEST THE MAYORAL ELECTION. Ladies and Gentlemen, IN response to your large and influential requisition I have much pleasure in announcing that I shall be a candidate for the office of Mayor for the ensuing term. Having been associated with local politics for the last 30 odd years you will be aware that ! am not a “plunger” and have always, while advocating progress, been on the side of prudence. Undoubtedly the Waterworks is the question of all others that is most prominent at the present time and one on which all candidates should express an opinion. Briefly lam in favour of retaining the old works, and if ' necessary increasing their capacity by raising the dam. I think new’ reticulation pipes are a necessity and should be obtained as soon as we are quite satisfied that the supply is adequate for the increasing population and increasing wants as it will be necessary very shortly to take up the question of drainage. H am in favour of extending the Borough boundary, believing that those who enjoy its conveniences should contribute to the funds. If elected I gha.ll do my best to forward the interests of the Borough to the best of my ability. R. E. BECKETT. mo TSE BURGESSES OF JL MARTON, AND ALL WHO ARE INTERESTED IN THE PROSPERITY AND PROGRESS of YOUR BOROUGH.
