TAIHAPE NOTES.

Regarding the accident to the little ,son of Mr H. Gowdy, of Raunui, who w s kicked badly by his horse while hung up in the stirrnp, I am pleased to kno.w that the little sufferer, w"ho was taken to Wanganui Hospital on Monday last, is steadily improving, and hopes are entertained of his ultimate and complete recovery. ' . ... The Young Men’s Institute held their opening function on Tuesday night at the Wesleyan Church. The little church was more tha-v fall, and the bill-of-fare brought some of the best talent in the district, and a very enjoyable evening was spent by al who had the good fortune to be present. Songs, duets and recitations were given by the to lowing ladies and gentlemen Mesdames Owen and the Misses Edwards, Lints, Bear, Parks, and Messrs Wighton, Eily, Tansley, Sutherland, Shelton, Smith and Pearce. The accompaniments were played {principally bv Miss Lints, assisted by Miss Bear. ’The vocalists, with the exception of two, were all now to a Taihape audience, and their various efforts were favourably received. After the musical portion, tea and cake was handed round and the evening closed. The Municipal nominations were received to-day, and most of the burgesses are pleased to note tliat our Mayor (Mr A. Nathan) was reelected without opposition. ihe following gentlemen were nominated as CouncillorsMessrs George Bray, R. W. Smith, S. Behan, Arch. Crawford. W. Aldridge, H. M. Hollow, R. Healy, and £F. J Tarrant. The first three were members of the .old Council, the remaining five being new men.
