Rosser Ryons, who was accused of maliciously damaging the railway line'at'Broken Hill, has been acquitted at Albury. stating the evidence was not strong [enough to convict him.

Parry, a*well known solicitor, has been arrested ona charge of stealing large sums of money, {the property of the Trustees of the Grand Lodge of Druids, Melbourne. The return issued by the Government of the[State shows that owing to the dryness of last year the shrinkage of live stock represented a monetary loss of nearly £3,000,000.

Sir Charles Lucas, head of the Dominion’s Department of the Colonial Office, has arrived here, and will visit Tasmania next week. London, April 21.

Sydney, April 22

A fire comir enced at 4 o’clock this morning in a large six storey building in George street, part of which was occupi ad by a branch of the Post Office and the Bulletin newspaper. At 6,30 the Post Office was gutted, but the brigades successfully kept back the fire from the Bulletin portion. The fire is still burning. Received April 22, 11.25 a.m.

The fire has been' extinguished. The Bulletin portion was practically undamaged, but the other half of the building, which comprised a branch of the Post Office and General Post Office Stores, was completely destroyed. The damage is estimated at probably £50,000.
