BURGLARS BAULKED.
Two impudent burglars, who dared to attempt to loot Leylands t Lancaster, the residence bf Lord Ashton, were much disappointed to find his lordship reading in bed. At three o’clock in the morning the pair entered by breaking the drawingroom window, bnt apparently they bad not been long in the honse when Polioe-Ooustable Oharnley discovered them through seeing a light in., the drawing-room. The house was surrounded by police, into whose arms Maitland rushed in attempting to escape. Johnson was found concealed in the butler’s pantry. The residence is within a quarter of a mile of the station, and a perfection, of arrangements make it a pretty burglar trap. The prisoners were baulked twice through finding Lord Ashton reading -In bed. They had got a pair of golf boots, a silver snuff-box, and some cigars before being caught. They were wearing, the clothing of Mr W. H. Satterthwaite, solicitor, Lancaster, .whose* residence was broken into the previous week, and the dog drugged and pitched out. They had, too, a pawnticket for Mr Satterthwaite’a gold watoh.
