RAILWAY MEN DISMISSED.
Press'Association.;' ■ Wellington, April 16; Regarding the dismissal of men from Addington workshops the Railway Department states that the men being dispensed .with are employees who were put bn for carrying out special work. That work has' now been completed. There have been a very large number of men employed on the workshops throughout the Dominion building rolling stock. The programme is now nearly completed, and the services of the men are no longer required. No permanent hands have been retired,'except under the superannnation scheme. Casual bands are now being dismissed. They were engaged for specific work for specific periods. Meanwhile [the building programme has been extended from time to time. The Department has been spending very large sums of money during the past jear in the manufacture of rolling stock. The work has now come to an end and this ..means their services are no longer required.
