The Westminster Gazette, remarking on the phrase iu Mr Churchill's letter where he assumes that the battleships given by the colonies wOuld be in addition to those constructed from the Home resources, says this would he an excessive provision. While the country welcomes the offer of the colonies, there is no reason why these should lead us to build a d iet larger than is required for safety. The. Times, on the authority of a well-informed correspondent; states that the Commonwealth cabled to the Admiralty that in the event of an emergency the whole naval forces would be placed unreservedly under the Admiralty’s direction upon the request of the commander of the Australian station
