WANGANUI CHARITABLE AID BOARD.
The nsnal monthly meeting of above was held on Thursday, when there were present: Messrs Ritchie (chairman), Fletcher, Battle, Russell, Carson, Fraser, Somerville, Sicely, Sprlggens, and Smith. The visiting surgeon reported that the health of the patients at the Home had been good, while the visiting committee reported that everything was working most satisfactorily. The monthly meeting of Wanganni Hospital Board'was then held. Dr. Yalintine wrote stating he visited the Hospital and found it in excellent order. He considered the accommodation somewhat taxed, and made a recommendation of what he thought were the best means to enlarge the accommodation, namely, by extending the verandahs. The House Surgeon reported that during the month 133 persons received treatment. Of these 63 were new patients. The patients discharged totalled 69, while 5 died, leaving 68 in on Ist inst. One case of diphtheria and four oases of typhoid were treated, 12 cases of accident were admitted, and 81 persons required treatment under anaesthetics. The scarlet fever ward has been closed since 13th March. Mr Carson reported that arrangements had been made for the cookery instructor [under the Education Board to give instruction to nurses. A vote of thanks was passed to Dr. Hatherley for assistance at the hospital recently. The secretary’s salary was increased by £25 per annum. It was resolved that when the Board decides to retain the services of a nurse [after she has completed her three years’ term she receive £4O a year. Miss O. A. Whitman was appointed probationer on the nursing staff.
