Press Association. “ Christchurch'' April 14. ‘ There" was a smaller entry to-day oi all classes of stock at the Addington yards. Prices-did not improve in fact in some classes the late rate was barely maintained. The of store sheep was not up to the average and except in a this class lacked quality. Nearlyjali lines changed hands but prices were easier. There were only about hall as many lambs yarded-as at the. previous sale but the demand was much brisker and in many instances a rise of 6d per head was noticeable. J.ne entry of fat''sheep was a moderate one and the prices realised were on a par with those obtained last week. The attendance of buyers was small towards the close of the sale and consequently there was an absence> of keen competition. For fat oattle.the sale was very dull and pricesi showed a decline of about Is per 1001 b for beef. Store cattle were dull of sale, but there was a good demand for the better class of dairy cows. The entry of fpigs was small but sold readily. Stores were weak_ but prime baooners sold well. There was a fair yarding of store sheep, though considerably smaller than at previous sales,'and with fe,w exceptions the quality was, below the average seen at the yards during the past; few months. The entry included a large number of sheep from Chatham Islands, afid ewes constituted a very large proportion of the yarding and ranged in quality from, good to inferior. The demand for ewes was only fair, and although nearly all the sheep offered changed hands prices were easier. A line of 450 3-tooth halfbred ewes sold at 15s 6d to 15s 9d, a good line of four and six-tooth balfbreds at 16a 6d, and full-mouthed halfbreds’at 11s 9d to 13s. Forward wethers and lambs, of which few were yarded, sold at prices on a par with those ruling at the previous sale, forward wethers making 10a 9d to 11s 3d. Fat lambs ; Export buyers secured 4093 and butchers 339 at prices ranging from 10s to 14s 7d. Fat sheep: Prime wethers 15s Id to 16s 6d, extra to 19a 2d, lightJlOs to 14s 9d, prime' ewes 31s to 17a 3d, lighter 8a 9d to 10a 6d. Fat cattle : Steera brought from £6 to £9 17s 6d, heifers £4 10a to £7 30a. and dry cows £4.5a to £7' 10s. Best steer beef realised 18s 6d to 20s, medians 16a 6d to 18a, and cow beef 14a 6d to 16s per lOOlba. The yarding of dairy cows was an ordinary one, but for better class there was again a good demand, prices ranging from £3 10a to £8 12s 6d.

Pigs: Some extra prime baconera were, sent for wad by Mr R. H. Rhodes of Taitapu, which realised up to 675. Large baooners made 60s to 675, and lighter 50s to 593, equal to 4%d per lb. Heavy porkers brought 40s to 50s, and smaller 35s to 395., equal to per lb. The demand for stores was weak and none of a large class were offered. Mediums made 16s to 34s 6d and weaners 7s 6d to 12s. 1

DUNEDIN GRAIN MARKET. Per Press Association. Dunedin, April 14. WhsatT—A slightly higher level of values has boon established during the week, 4a net being paid for mixed lines of red chaff, tn can, and velvet on"trncks at country stations—equal to 4a 3d to 4s 3 J ex trucks at Dunedin. More is wanted for deferred delivery and some growers are sitting solidly on their stocks with no intention of -selling at present. Offerings of prime milling are on a restricted scale. Broken and inferior fetches 2s'9d to 3s 3d, medium to good clear whole fowl wheat 3s (id to Bs 9d, ex store. Oats.—Up to the present consignments have not been extensive} bnt perhaps sufficient for requirements. A moderate demand exists, but there are no indications of improvement in prices. Prime feed and milling ls4>£d, medium, to good Is to Is 4d, inferior Is 2d to Is 3d, ex store.

STOCK REPORT. The New Zealand Loan & Mercan--1 tile Agency Company, Ltd., report At Palmerston North on Thursday, owing to the Easter holidays intervening only a small entry of sheep and cattle came forward. Prices were on a par with last week and practically all lines were quitted. We quote Shee p: Oull ewes 3s, store lambs 3s 6d to 5s Gd, forward lambs 7s. Cattle: Store cows 33526 d, forward cows £3 15s, cows in milk £3 13s Gd, heifers in calf £2 15s, springing heifers £8 12s to £4 17s 6d, cows in. oalf £3 3s Gd to £B 13s Gd, cows and calves £3 7s, Jersey cow at drop £8 ss, bulls £3. Messrs Abraham & Williams,{Ltd., reportWe held our usual weekly Palmerston sale on Thursday, April 15th, About 700 of the advertised sheep did not come forward and we consequently had a very small yarding w|iich met with a ready sale at current rates. Cattle came forward in excess of advertised numbers and the demand seemed a little keener than last week. We quote Shee p: Good lambs 7s 3d, medium ss, inferior 3s to 3s 7d, forward ewes 7a ■ CJ, aged ewes 3s 4d ta4sßd. Cattle: Fat heifera £3 10a to £4, fat and forward cows £3 os to £3 12s Gd, forward cows £2 10s to £4. fat and forward cows £3 5s to £3 13s 6d, forward cows £3 10a to £3, store cows 25s to £2, dairy heifera in oalf 31s to £3 10s Jersey heifera in calf £4. to £6, weauers 7s Gd to 13s Gd. We also offered a vfiry nice line of 50 4 yearold bullocks which were passed in at £5 Bs. . Messrs Dalgety & Co., Ltd., report:—At our Palmerston North sale on Thursday last only a small entry came forward. Quotations .Bmpty cows 87s to £3, forward heifers to £3 17s, bulls to £3, springing heifers £3 2s 6d to £8 17s f.d.
