APITI NOTES.
From Oar Own Correspondent. On Easter Monday the _ annual sports of, the local Athletic Olnb were held in Mr Hngh Osborne’s paddock. The day was perfect, and the’ attendance large. Competition was keen in the various events, .and the entries show a decided increase on previous, years. The chopping competition boys caused great excitement and resulted in a very close finish. Seventeen were nominated for the men’s chop, whilst the pedestrian events brought several fresh runners to light. Some capital jumping was shown in the Maiden Hunters and Open. Hunters competitions. In the evening a grand concert .was given in the-pubilo hall, and was., well patronised. Encores were'numerous, and the programme was gone through with a good swing. A large number remained to the dance, which followed,:. A gloom-was cast overthe ■ district on Monday Whenit was made known' that Miss Laura Prince was dead. Shoi'had been an invalid forrover five years ; and although her- case was given up as incurable,, she bore her fata with wonderful fortitude. The funeral on Tuesday was largely attended, and the service conducted by Rev. J. White was very Impressive.
Rev. D. McKenzie has commenced his duties among the Presbyterians. Already his homely and unaffected manner have made, him popular.
