A MARATHON RACE.

The' first Marathon race in Australia produced 81 starters on a course of 26 miles, from Sydney Cricket Ground to Tom Ugly’s Point and back. The competitors were medically examined before the start, and several were, prevented from proceeding. Sime (Sydney) won easily in 8 hours 5 minutes 30 l-6seconds, while Wood, the second man, just reached the post in a fainting condition.
