THE MARKETS.
ADDINGTON STOCK SALES, Per Press Association. Christchurch, April,?. The entry of stock at Addington yards to-day was good, all classes being well filled. Store sheep showed an increase on the previous . week, and gieat interest was evidenced in this section. The yarding of fat iambs was a large one, 7069 being entered, as compared # with 21835 last week. The quality of the lambs was rather better than at previous sales, and, in spile of the fact that, within the last few days, export bnyers had reduced their limits for- weights over 861 b, and second quality, the market was rather firmer than was the case a week'’ago: This, no donbt; was largely the result of recent cablegramsreceived from London announcing that the market was more steady, and that prices were firm at quotations. At to-day s sale there was an absence of ‘cutting up, which had b:en the feature of recent markets, and export bnyers appeared more anxious than previously to secure lots. Several export buyers held off, however, as did also several Australian buyers, who have recently arrived in New Zealand. The export bnyers secured lines totalling prices ranging from Us l<Lto 18s 6d (extra making 13a 7d to 14s). while batchers purchased 206 at varying from 13a 6d to 14s 7d. The [ better class.. of ewes elicited good competition, but inferior lines were dull of sale. Two-cooths of good class realised 14s 6d to 15s 6d, medium 13a 6d to 14s, and four, six, and eight-tooth sorts, also of good quality, made 18s 3d to 14s, 6d . Good forward wethers brought 9a 6d to 10s 6d, and lowconditioned sorta*7s9d to 9s. Fat cattle i Prices showed a decline, when 'compared with the previous week, of abont 6d per 1001 b. The yarding of pigs was only a medium, one. For choppers there was little inquiry, and prices ranged to £B. Baoonera for which there was fair demand, ranged from 50s to 60s for heavy, and 45s to 49s for smaller, equal to per lb. Heavy porkers made 88s to 445, lighter 32s to 365, equal to 5%d to 6d per lb.
