SHOOTING.
NEWMAN CUP COMPETITION. SANDON-OHAKEA v, HIMATANGI. ■ Teams representing the above Clubs met on the Sandon range under most unfavourable weather conditions that had disastrous effects on most of the competitor’s scores. This is the first time that these teams have met this year, and the usual friendly relations that have always existed again characterised the meeting. Shooting at 200 yards was most trying owing to the gale and frequent showers, consequently good scores were the exception. At this range the home team established d lead of twenty points, and when the score sheet at 500 yards showed that the champion team had failed to make np the deficiency, the hopes of the local men brightened at , the prospect of a win. These hopes were realised for at the conclusion of the day’s shooting the totals worked out with a majority ol 75 points in favour of Sandon-Ohakea. Captain Hartley congratulated the victors on their meritorious performance under such unfavourable weather conditions. This was the jfirst time that Himatangi had been beaten for a long time, but he was satisfied that the best team had won. In reply Captain Perry expressed his satisfaction that his team had at last turned the corner and had secured a win against Himatangi. It was always pleasant to win, and he felt more than satisfied with his men, especially the young shots, who had shot so consistently throughout the day, and he hoped that eventually he would capt&in the team that would fight out the final with Marton. The following are the scores SANDON-OHAKEA.
