The postal car on the WellingtonNew Plymouth express was detailed at Marton to-day. The train was delayed for 80 minutes. Customs returns for the port of Wellington for the past month show a general increase in the value and quantities of exports compared with those for the corresponding month last year. The total value was £524,273 as against £383.346 for last year. For the quarter the value was £1,585,0T9 as against £1,298,660 for same period in 1903. An inquest was held this morning at Dunedin on the body of Albert Edward Burden, who died suddenly yesterday when clearing out a gas holder After hearing evidence, the Coroner said : “I have no hesitation in coming to the conclusion that death was solely due co the effect of gas poisoning, also no hesitation in saying there is nothing to show that there was any negligence or want of proper precautions. The death is purely, one of inadvertence, no blame being attachable to anyone.” Tne verdict was accordingly. At Mangatainoka on Wednesday eve ring there was a very large meetiing of residents to say farewell to Miss M. H. Sicely, who has been assistant teacher there for nearly fifteen years, and is now leaving for* a new appointment at the Upper Hutt. After very eulogistic speeches had been made Miss Sicely was given a number of presents from various sections of the public.
