POLO.

The annual tournament ot the New Zealand Polo Association opened at Hokowhitu on Saturday. The following matches were played : MANAWATU B (0) v. RANGITIKEI (17). Manawatu (red).— Goring Johnston, H. N. Watson, Gifford Moore, Oapt. Gathoine-Hardy. Bangitikei (white). —G. H. Wilson, K. Dalrymple, H. White, R. A. Wilson. Bangitikei immediately got going, and, with a fast rush drew first blood, per K. Dalrymple. Shortly afterwards the performance was repeated, H. Wilson scoring, and this was followed by two more goals in quick succession—4 to nil, Manawatu pulled themselves together in the second spell, play being much more even, but they couldn’t scoire. From now on Manawatu weakened, until Bangitikei ran over them, the game ending 17 to nil, three goals being scored in the third spell, five in the fourth, three in hte fifth, and two in the final flutter. FEBN PLATS (5) v. MANGAHEIA (6). Fern Fiats (red).—J. D. Smith, W. J. Cameron, J. D. Coleman, A. Cameron. Mangaheia (white).- A. B. Williams, Q. M. Reynolds, R. Reynolds, J. M. Morphy. This game was exceedingly fast and iinteresting. In the first spell the Poverty Bay men had the best of it, scoring twice, while Fern Flats failed to notch a point. The latter, however, "were playing with bad luck and two fine long shots narrowly missed scoring—Mangaheia 2 to nil. The Gisborne men in the second spell had two good chances, but both shots went wide, and the only goal was to Pern Flats, bringing the total to 2—t. The third spell commenced wildly, but once the ponies had warmed to their work play livened up. Poverty Bay scored 2 goals and Fern Flats one. The end of the fourth spell showed the, score of, Managheia o, Fern Plats 3, after some good play. Fern Flats then got to work and scored another goal. 5—4. Interest was now intense and was increased shortly after the commencement of the last spell hy Fern Flats making the scores 6 all. strenuously strove for the winning goal but fortune favoured the Poverty Bay men. PAREWANUI (8); v. (JURIST- ... OHURuH (1). Parewanni (red).— Lynn MoKelvie, Nelson Scott, James McKelvie, Stewart McKenzie. Christchurch (white). —G L. Stead, Q. L. Rutherford, J. D. Hall, O. O. T. Rutherford. Parewanui in the [first fspell played well and hit 8 goals. In the second spell Christchurch and Parewanui both scored making the score 4—l. Shortly Jafter play commenced Parewanui shot two more splendid goals. At the end Parewanni again scored and the game ended 8 goals to 1.
