THE BULLS FIRE.
The business at the Balls Post Office is now being carried on in Mr J. G, French’s new sample room. Carpenters were bard at work yesterday making necessary alterations. The mails were dispatched as usual, and telephonic and telegraphic communication was restored at 9 a.m., and not 10.30 as stated in error yesterday. Mr W. B. Clark, whose loss is heavy, saved most of his books, but his quarterly accounts and other important records were burnt. Mr Thomas King succeeded in recovering all documents of the Rangitikei Dairy Company. He has taken temporary offices at the Masonic Hall. Mr and Mrs MoNickle have Buffered severely through the fire. All their household fnrnitnre and effects were burnt, and Mr MoNickle lost a valuable library. He had no insurance, reiving on the brick building as being fire-proof. Mr and Mrs .MoNickle spent all their time in saving the Postal records and documents. At one time Mrs McNiokle was in danger of being enveloped in flamea but Mr J. G. Wilson came to the rescue and removed her to a place of safety. . , , The Bulls Town clfck, subscribed to by residents, is ia total wreck. The clock cost £3OO. The brick walls of the Post Office are badly damaged and probably wilL have to be palled down. The buildings on the opposite side of the street were all badly damaged by the heat and will cost a considerable amount to put them in order again.
