FFILDING BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The fortnightly meeting was held last night. Present—The Mayor (W. J. B. Trewin), Ors Oobbe, Fitzherbert, Bramwell, Qoodbehere, .West, Atkinson and Tolley.CORRESPONDENCE.
From Chamber of Commerce, requesting assistance of Council in obtaining Gieson’s Bush as a spenic reserve for the town and district.— Agreed to. From Dr. Monckton. complaining that he could not obtain the services of the ranger.—Referred to ranger for a reply. From A. Eade, requesting that crossing now being removed in construction of kething, be reformed at expense of Council. —Old timber in this and other cases may he used, if suitable, and a reduction in cost be made accordingly. From J. E. Woodhouse, York street, asking to he allowed to make a connection with the water supply. —Granted. ■ „ , ■ From Clerk of Awards, notifying dates of sitting of Arbitration Court, re Wellington Drivers’ dispute.—No action taken to be represented. From night soil contractor, asking what offer, in addition to the £2 per week now paid to him [ the Council intended to make for re-engaging him after end of Jtbis month.—Referred to Sanitary Committee to report. > , From \ Returning Officer, asking that'Licensing Election accounts be paid as scon as they have been considered by Finance Committee. From Trustees Wesleyan Church, applying lor right to use water supply to drive pipe organ.-—Re-ferred to Water Committee with power to act. REPORTS. The Town Clerk reported on maintenance work finished and required, and recommended on the advice of the Overseer, the metalling of several streets-at a total cost of £169105. —Adopted The Engineer reported that it would cost £6O to form and metal 15 chains of Port street, 12 feet wide. He recommended that Kimbolton road from North street to the bend be metalled at a cost of £312- — The Council concluded that it was unable to expend that sum at present. The Works Committee, having inspected the intake and the plans of the Engineer for diverting the stream to its previous course by a groyne,‘recommended that the work be undertaken at once. The Committee recommended granting the application of MrMiugiffs to form a portion of Port street.
It was resolved That Mr Mavall’s property be drained as requested, and.that Mr Johnston, Cheltenham, be allowed to collect the waste water, which'at present escapes from the air valve on his property, for use of his cattle—The report was adopted. That Ellerm & Ross’s tender of £2O for work at intake be accepted. That the proposal to erect a kerosene Tamp at corner of North road and Makino road be referred to. the Lighting Committee. That immediate steps be taken to repair the water trough in the Square. . The Manchester Baud was granted the use of South Street Reserve as rrqv.UEted.
