THE PACIFIC.

BASELESS RUMOURS OF GERMAN ACTION. United Press Association. —By Electric Telegraph.—popyright. Received March 16, 94.5a.m. Sydney, March 16. Herr Irmir, Consul General for Germany, characterises the cablegram that Germany intends to seize an Island in the Pacific and transform it into a naval base as absurd. He points out that Britain, Germany, France and America have already appointed an administration for the Pacific. He added “The scare comes as usual from an American source. A section of the New York press seldom loses an opportunity of putting Australia against Germany and reports are circulated for purposes of irritation.’’ Received March 16, 94.5 a.m. Sydney, March 16. Hong Kong files report two outbreaks of plague at Kowloon, one in the centre of the European residential district.
