ALLEGED GERMAN DESIGNS.

A Canton telegram to the New York Herald 3 states it is believed that Germany intends to annex an island in the Pacific and transfer its naval base. The supposition is strengthened by the fact that the Commandant of the German squadron at Canton shipped abroad a German staemer a large quantity of food supplies, guns, ammunition and material for the erection of barracks--, but the destination is unknown. The British cruiser Flora has been ordered to watch the vessel.
Press Association. Wellington, March 14. The team to represent Wellington at the New Zealand A.A.A. Championship Meeting at Dunedin nest Saturday is as follows L> M, McKay, shot, pole, vault, and long jump. W. G. Harding (Napier), 440 and 880 yards. W. A. Woodger, 100 and 220 yards. J. Wilton, 220 and 440 yards. G. S. Sharpe, three miles. A. Evenson, 120 and 440 hurdles, pole, vault, and high jump. P. Fitzgerald, one and three miles walks. , The inclusion of A. E. Burge depends on his performance in a trial run over a mile, to be hold on Monday evening. If he is a ’member of the team he will run in the mile and half mile. Should ho fail to satisfy the selectors, Williams, of Wanganui, will go to run in the quarter and half-mile.
