_ A DEFINITION. There are probably few greater wits among present-day noblemen than Lord Rosebery, and it is to him that we are indebted for the latest definition of memory. - Some, time ago a friend met him, and they discnssed the subject. "Well* what do you say that memory is?” asked Lord Rosebery’a friend. ‘ ‘ Memory, ’ ’ replied his “is the feeling that steals ovar us when we listen to our friends’ original stories. ” Ever and anon we read in the papers of a “new” and “original” polish for tan footwear, linoleums, and the like, and cariosity prompts us to give it a trial. The experiment costs ns sixpence and plenty of regret. Actual use of the ‘ ‘ original” article convinces ns-that it is the same old .oily stuff our grandmothers used to make, and about as useful for polishing linoleum as painting- a coal hulk. Most people who have cut their wisdom teeth, have passed over all the “originals,” and use only a polish that IS new and a thing distinctly apart. THAT POLISH IS TAN-OL.
