OHAKUNE TOWN BOARD.
, The ordinary weekly meeting was held.on Tuesday evening. Present: Commissioners Athy (chairman), Wilkie, Quinn and Butler. Mr Niool, Town Olerk, was absent in Wanganui. Letters were read—iFrom Mr Suggato, Engineer, that his report re high pressure water scheme would arrive a* end of week, also forwarding'plans of levels, etc., for footpaths for convenience of foreman. From Mr Woodford, enclosing tracings. From Mr Jennings, M.P., ing Board that a tender had been, accepted for Post Office anct that building would be proceeded with at once. ! - , .., From Wanganui Charitable Aid Board, for information re rateable value of property in Ohaknne. From J. W. Hall, askinig for employment. —’Name to be placed on future reference. From Under-Secretary of Lands, that no money could be allowed to Board out of cash sales of land. From Labour Department, re half holiday, and that application was informal. —Resolved (Wilkie — Butler) that letter be handed to Board’s solicitor to deal with. From Under-Secretary of Lands, re reserves and forwarding Gazette notice. ' 1 From Messrs F Oorkhili and Geo. Sargeant, applying, for lease of land at back of their premises oh Waiouru Road. —This'matter caused some discussion. Some members donhted if the Board had power to lease, hot on referring to their solicitor’s advice oa the subject and also letter from Commissioner of Crown Lands, it was unmistakably pointed out that the Board had the power to lease and on the motion of Commissioner Quinn, seconded by the Chairman, it was that the section be leased to Mr Olsen for 6s per week for a term of 21 years subject to the following reservations: That each of the occupiers of sections in front of river bank have the sole right to the section at the rear At a rental not to exceed more than Is 6d per week. Tho Board reserves the right to terminate the lease to Mr Olsen by giving three months’ notice in writing. From Mr O. Soarletti, applying for lease of a satcion facing Waiouru Road.— Resolved (Butler—Wilkie) that all reserves facing roads be tendered for. It was resolved that the employees of the Board be insured against accident. It was resolved— That (Butler—Wilkie) all occupiers of sections be notified that 'culverts must be put in within seven days, otherwise will be put in by the Board, aud charged to the owners. That (Wilkie—Butler) in order to protect the Board’s interests, and for the safety of pedestrians, the owners of verandah posts be notified that the same must be moved out to the full width of the footpath, the Board’s solicitor to bs consulted as to tbs shortest can be given to exonerate the Board from all liability from accident or otherwise. That Or. Wilkie be deputed to deal with the lighting: arrangements. That (Wilkie—Butler) in view of the of the clerk, the solicitor be instructed to proceed with the valuation roll at ouoe.
