ALLEGED LIBEL.
AN AGENT-GENERAL CASE

Jnstice Grantham, of the King’s Bench Division, has commenced the hearing of a libel action brought by Mr Jenkins, late South Australian Agent-General, against the Australian Trading World for circulating in January, 1908, a groundless rumonr that he would be replaced, alleging his Agent-Generalship had not been successful and had caused ’dissatisfaction in South Australia owing to bis lacking of energy and enthusiasm. Mr Harney, a West Australian, Mr Jenkins’ counsel, attributed the libel to Mr Jenkins’ refusal to give the paper advertisements. Received March 12, 8.0 a.m. . London, Match 11. The editor admitted having written to Mr Jenkins several times with requests for advertisements and having hinted that he naturally supported those who supported the paper. Mr Justice Grantham summed up heavily against the paper. Mr Jenkins did not ask for heavy damages and £25 was awarded with costs £SOO.
