FEILDING CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.

The monthly meeting was held last night, Mr Tolley, president, in the chair.

Tetters were received — From Wellington Chamber of Commerce, stating that it was proposed to hold a conference of representatives of Chambers of Commerce at Wellington on April 13th.—Messrs Tolley and Oarty were appointed. From Hon. J. D. Findlay, Minister of Justice, accepting invitation to the opening of the new Courthouse. It was decided that the regular night of meeting be the second Mon-, day in each month. The Chairman reported that the traffic manager had been interviewed with regard to the application to the Department for attachment of a passenger car to the afternoon goods train to Bunnythorpe. He thought that Mr Armstrong put too little value on passenger traffic from town to town, and seemed to think only the through traffic was worth considering. The traffic manager, however, consented to put on a passenger oar on Fridays. The Chairman also reported that the member for Oroua had obtained the favourable consideration of the Government in securing the piece of native bush known as Gieson’s bush as a reserve. Mr George Bartholomew, who was present at the meeting, stated that it is situated from the Post Office. The area of bush is about 40 acres and it is well sheltered and contains a good variety of native timber. It was resolved, on the motion of Mr A. H. Atkinson, that Feildiug Borough Council, Oroua Council, and Mauawatu Council, be asked to make jplnt representations with the Chamber of Commerce to the Government as to the advisability of reserving the bush for the town, district and colony.
