Mr Massey intimated to a Herald Reporter that he would accept Sir J. Ward’s challenge to prove his (Mr Massey’s) recent . charges against Government methods. The charges principally referred to are: (1) That suggestions had been made at the elections to the effect that certain districts would be moie likely to be benefited by public expenditure if those districts were represented by Government supporters, rather than Oppositionists; (2) That systematic attempts were made at the elections by members of the party of which Bir Joseph Ward is leader, to libel and misrepresent Opposition candidates and Opposition members of the last and preceding Parliaments.
