TO-DAY’S SHOOTING

The weather conditions to-day are a repetition of the two previous days, but it is excessively hot. It was an excellent day for shooting after the early morning mist lifted. When the squads were lined up preparatory to marching off, Cox. Collins was greeted with applause, when he announced that an extra £IOO had been allocated to the prize list, £54 to be divided as a consolation match for those who had not won £l, and from||£sl to £IOO in the championship final. The Colonel also eulogised the excellent entry which, taken in comparison with the size of the country, was greater than the Biiley Meeting with Britain’s millions of population to draw from. He hoped to see the day when the meeting would be equal to that at Bisley. Shooting commenced to-day with the service matches at 200 and 400 yards. In the former, which is snap shooting, the targets are exposed seven times, each exposure being for three seconds, with irregular intervals between the exposures, varying from 6to 30 seconds. The target is one with an 8-inch bull’s eye invisible [to the firer, the bull’s-eye only serving to decide whether a hit has been made, each hit on the figure scoring 5 points. In the 600 yards rapid firing the target has the sahae distances and divisions as the ordinary secondclass target, but as the scores are taken at the butts the' winners will possibly not be available for the evening papers.
