THE COOK ISLANDS.

Major Seely, replying to Mr An--fltruther Gray, said ho had no report of an attempt by the natives to haul down the British flag at the Cook Islands. The New Zealand Government had ample power to deal with -disturbances. / Per Press Association. Auckland, March 4. The Hon. Carroll states that H.M. 'Cambrian has gone back to Cook Islands wit|i the Resident Commissioner. He anticipates that the trouble at Manahiki and Bakaban&a will bo settled without difficulty. The presence of warships backing Colonel Gudgeon would provide a ■great moral force. No report was made to the British Government because the Cook Islaiids are under [New Zealand’s jursidiction. The Commissioner has full power to deal with the difficulty.
