RAETIHI NOTES.

Fourteen Tesidential sites on the back streets of Raetihi township were offered for sale by auction by Mr Mackenzie, Commissioner of ■ Crown Lands, The areas were all, with one exception, one quarter acre, and the best of the sections sold readily, although competition was not particularly keen for those that were not in good positions or were low lying. The following, is the list of purchasers: —Section 89, £SO reserve, passed in ; section 144, sold to Mr T. M. Butts for £4O; section 159, sold to Mr W. Hoddle, for £4l; section 161, sold to Dr. Owen for £3l; section 165, sold to Mr Hoddle for £26; section 174, sold to Mr Hanker for £26; section 178, sold to Mr T. May, jnn., for £22 10a; -section. 182, sold to Jas. Goodyer (for £34; section 184, sold to Mr Jas. Goodyer for £32; section 112 passed in at £25; section 118 passed in at £4O; section 124 sold to Mr H. E. Girdleston for £3l; section 128 passed in at £35; section 131, sold to Mr Tustin at £25. The petition for the establishment of a local telephone bureau is receiving hearty support and the signa-tures-of-nearly all local businessmen are being secured. Whilst a waggon laden with timber from the Raetihi Sawmilling Company’s mill was turning the corner near the bridge [near Messrs Abbott and Proud’s the bank gave way and .the team was precipitated .town, turning completely over. The horses and waggon were very little injured, but the driver was much shaken and bis leg was injured. , A meeting is being convened by Dr.'Gwen in Raetihi Town Hall of all those interested in the formation of a Mounted Rifle Corps for the Waimarino district. The business is to elect a committee to draw up application to Defence Department. Sergeant-Major Dodd, Mounted Instructor, is to be present.
