FARMER’S UNION.
Per Press Association. Pahiatua, February 22, At a meeting of Pahiatua branch of the Farmers Union on Saturday Mr A. W, Hogg’s recent statement as to his being favourable to a State issue of paper money was adversely criticised. It was resolved that “ Wej as farmers, are opposed to any wild cat financial .scheme which would have the probable effect of creating a financial crisis in New Zealand, and that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Colonial Executive of the Union.” It was also decided that a meeting of delegates from various branches of the Farmers Union, including Mauriceville, Woodville, and Pongaroa, be held in Pahiatua to consider the position of the meat trade and the advisableness of establishing freezing works. The committee of the branch also reported regarding the milk standard fixed by the Health Department, which is instituting actions against dairymen in various parts of the Dominion. The committee reported that the legal standard was unnecessarily high and difficult to attain. It was resolved to forward a copy of the report to the Colonial Executive of the Farmers’ Union with a request that it be forwarded to the Health Department.
