WELLINGTON WOOL SALES.

The/ final of the Wellington series of sales for the 1908-9 season took place on Friday. There was a record catalogue, a big attendance and a realisation at a splendid range of values. For crossbreds and finer qualities the prices of last sale were well maintained, and where there was a difference it was all in the seller’s favour. Lamb’s wool showed a very satisfactory appreciation in value, bright superior wools of this description making an advance of from \ld to a pound above the prices of last sales. Medium lamb’s wool showed an improvement of a pound. Pieces generally were %d a pound better value. Generally the tone of the market was considerably stronger. The buyers contend that their prices were quite equal to anything thtey have given this season, that is for the decent quality wools, but. that prices were naturally erratic for inferior descriptions, wools which no one could tell what they were actually worth. This particularly applied to the badly marketed wools, □ □skirled and beavv in condition. The buye~s again complain of the ridiculous ideas of value / entertained by some growers, who fix reserves on their wool, often twenty-five to fifty per cent, above their true market value, owing to their inability to discern between varying degrees of quality. Some of the individual sales will give an idea of the prices realised. Forty bales cf a halfbred went to 10%d. and three-quarterbred ewes to 9d. A Waituna Komney made 9d, ami lambs from the same district of the same description 9%d. A Hawke’s Bay grower, who missed the Napier sales and forwarded his woe! to Wellington for realisation, made 9%d for crossbred ewes and 9d for lambs’ wool.— W.Z. Times.
