Mr O. R. Cooke, Marion, has received word that his brother, Mr F. R. Cooke, was a passenger by the ill-fated Penguin, and was drowned. The body has not yet been recovered. Archibald McNeil, the habitual criminal who escaped from gad and was recaptured, was to-day sentenced at Wellington to one year’s imprisonment, ordered to be kept in close confinement for 14 days, and to lose six months* marks. J A sudden death took place at Pukerau yesterday, when Charles O’Hagan expired, presumably from heart disease, while transacting business in a carpenter’s shop. He was an old resident of the district, having been a settler for thirty years. No inquest will be necessary. In the Divorce Court at Wellington O. D. Henry obtained a decree nisi for dissolution of marriage twith Alice Henry. Petitioner was granted custody of the children. A defence had been filed by defendant, but it was withdrawn. The case was heard in camera. Tl*e Minister for Railways ,|was asked yesterday if he could name the Commissioners who Will inquire into the allegations of mismanagement and incompetent work of the Addington workshops. He replied that the whole matter was not quite completed, but in less than a week he would be able to make the announcement. WHY?
