Those millers who were in immediate want of supplies of wheat to carry on with, having filled their requirements, the market is settling down to a lower level of prices. There is a considerable amount of new wheat now offering, but. in view of its having been threshed out of stock, and the’ grain being naturally softer than in a dry season buyers are not keen to operate. The risk of the grain sweating in the bags necessarily causes them to exercise caution in the selection of samples. Last week saw buyers declining to make purohasesjat prices -that bad been paid for immediate supplies, and sales have now been effected on a lower basis. A line of 1600 bushels and another of 4200 bushels have changed hands at 3s 9d —at l%d and stations respectively; and 650 bushels at 3s lOd, at Übristchurch.
