HAWKE’S BAY v. FERN FLATS. This match was played on Mr A. R. Bryce’s ground yesterday afternoon, Hawke’s Bay following up their success at Bulls by defeating Fern Flats by 12; goals to 3. The teams wereHawke’s Bay: W. McKenzie, back; F, McKenzie (3), H. Russell (2), J. Ormond (1), Fern Flats: J. Coleman, back; A. Cameron (3), H. Cameron (3), J. Smith (I).a The game was a one-sided one for the first three spells, Hawke’s Bay scoring goal after goal. At the end of the third spell the visitors had put np nine goals by splendid combined play, but then Fern Flats 5 wc ke up and made the game very fast, narrowly missing scoring several times. In the fourth spell Fern Flats obtained a "penalty goal, splendidly hit by A. Cameron, and the visitors also scored. In this spell the home team held a distinct advantage, some good individual play being shown, but three bebinds resulted. In the next spell the visitors notched another goal, this being the only score. A nasty collision took place between two of the local players, J, Smith and H. Cameron, but fortunately they escaped injury, although Cameron was thrown heavily and received a nasty shaking. The final spell was the keenest of the game and a goal each was put uji, whilst Fern Fiats had hard Inojs in getting two ether bebinds, the ball just going outside. The official record was Hawke’s Bay 13 goals and 6 bebinds; Fern Flats, 2 goals and 6 bebinds. H Cameron played a dashing game, being responsible for all offensive tactics of his side. J. Smith played a good Nc. 1 for a beginner, but lacked confidence, never being quite certain whether lie was off-side or not. For the visitors there was no individual brilliancy, but they played a good sclii game against an inferior team. Mr Bill refeised.
