The monthly meeting was held Yesterday. Present—Ore. G. Wheeler <chairman), W. Q. Pearce, Ymcent, Rowling and Sorrell. CORRESPONDENCE. From G. Jeffries, asking the Council to assist him to form an approach to his property on Kelvin Grove road. ~From S *A.’ G. Oarty, asking Oountnl to have the road property at Aorangi dedicated, the Railway Department being willing to hand it oyer.—Referred to County SO FroinDr. Frengley. with re P° r \°* District Health Officer and complaint with respect, to the effluent from the Bannytfaorpe Go-operative Butter Factory.—Or. From Kaijfranga County Council, acknowledging receipt of statement of expenditure on Gorge bridge.--The Chairman reported that this Council was prepared to make payments as required and the Palmerston Borongh Council also in respect to the bridge. From Auditor-General, approving of half-yearly balance-sheet. . Mr Price waited on the Council in respect to the Ren Ren road and the Chairman explained what had been done in the matter, oxpressing the opinion that the Maoris were trespassing on a part of it. REPORTS. The Treasurer reported riding accounts as follows: Ranmanga ridmg. cr. £194 Os 9d; Makino, cr. £313 3s lOd; Mangaone, or. £4 6s 4d; Otangaki. dr. £298 12s 4d; Hiwmni, dr £BO 19s 9d; Rangitawa, dr. £l Ol <j s lid; Taonui, dr. £399 17s sd. Bank balances, or. £914 5s 7d ; No. 1 loan, £529 Is 6d ; interest account, dr £430 6s -3Q; Gorge bridge, dr. £3704 13s lOd. 1 t _ , . The Engineer reported having Widened Maokay’s Dine to 23 feet. The cost would be £6O. The widening of the Bnnnytborpe-Ashhnrst road had been completed, with the exception cf two or three small cuttings. These would be finished as soon as the road machine was available from Maokay’s Line. The ■gravelling contract on Henaghan s Line and those for gravelling Grove, North and Greeahow’s roads were proceeding satisfactorily. The Kelvin Grove road contract had been satisfactorily completed and the contractor was going over it a |» a *“- had prepared estimates of the cost of reducing the grade on Cinder Hill from 1 in 6at the steepest part to 1 in 14. The top of the hill would be lowered eight feet. The cost would be £154 according to one plan and £ll7 the other; attached was an estimate of the quantity of gravel required on the several roads tctallmg 450 yards in the Rangitawa riding, 200 in the Mangaone 1600 in the Ranmanga, 3850 in the, Makino, 2800 in the Taonni, 1470 in the Hiwmni, 1480 in the JOtangaki, making a total of 10,950. The Council decided to regrade Cinder Hill hnt neither of the plans submitted was definitely adopted. The work will probably he done by diverting a part of the road, and the matter was left in the hands of the Chairman and Or. Burrell. It was decided, to invite tenders for the metal required and to deal with them on the 19th. OTHER BUSINESS. Applications for transfer of names on the rate roll were granted as follows Job Hollis to E. O. Sanders, for allotment 53, Ashhurst; A. Needham to G. Kitford, lor section 4, Aorangi; E. King to H. Little, for sections 63 and 68, Bunuytborpe; Wm, Jnpp to G. Bogan, for sections 38 and 34, deposited plan 183; John Follett to Mark Standish, for section 3a, subdivision D, Manchester Block; Mark Standish to i Walter Frue, for section 34, subdivision D, Manobseter Block; F. M. Haseiden to J. F. Rosenbeok, for section 6b, Gorge Survey District. The tender of Al Dnnbar for dog collars, at 6d each, was accepted. It was resolved : That (Ors. Wheeler—Vincent) Ors. Redmayne and the Chairman he authorised to assist the Halcombe Town Board in the repair and improvement of Halcombe Cemetery. That (Ors. Pearce—Rowling) F. Barton’s tender of £67 for the collection of the dog tax be accepted.
