The Revue Magazine states that the Empress of China, before dying, induced Yuanshinkai, Prince Chun, and the Ohie£"Eunuch to compel the Emperor to take opiumjand suffocate himself with gold leaf under the threat of strangulation. The Emperor complied, hence the refusal of European medical help. The Empress appointed the present rnler and died next day.
