CANTERBURY J.O. MIDSUMMER MEETING. FIRST DAY. Per Press Association. Christchurch, February 4. The Canterbury Juckey Club's Midsummer Meeting was opened today in beautiful weather. The at' tendance, however, was not large, and fields were not particularly good. Totalizator investments amounted to £4781 in addition to which bookmakers’ fees amounted to £225. Results :- Trial Stakes, one mile.—Valdimar 1, Jessie Lewars 2, Nobel 3. Also ran : Helianthus, Cavatina, Canton, Eaglestone, and Vologda. Won very easily. Time, lipin 42 1-osec. Hornby Welter, 7 furlongs.— Golden Cairn 1, Contender 2, Zetland 3. Also ran: Stronghold, Harvest, Hilarity, Alexis, Prism, The Lybian, Somaroff, Athena, and Luperin. Won by a length. Time, Imin 9 4-ssec.“ Filly Stakes, 6 furlongs.- Flitaway 1, Miss Mischief 2, Passion 3. Also ran : Dabohick, Ormolu, Lady Lochiela, Inchbonny, and Aetna. Won by a length. Time, Imin 14 2-ssec. Midsummer Handicap, 1)4 miles.— Prim 1, Tikitere 2, Glenculloch 3. Also ran: Probable, Field Gun, Grand Slam, EUerton, and. Monkey Puzzle. Won by a length and a half, Tikitere beating Genolullooh by half a head for second place. Time, 2min 39sec. Lyttelton Plate, 6 furlongs.— Ingoda 1, Ploughshare 2, Boutade 3. Also ran: Oymbiform and Zembla. Won esaily by a length and a quarter. Time, Imin 16 2-ssec. Craven Plate, 7 furlongs.—Lddy Disdain 1, Czar Kolohol 2, Rose Noble 3. Also ran : Petrovna, Sunglow. De Witte, White Cockade and Contender. Won by a long neck. Time, Imin 28 2-ssec. Halswell Welter Handicap, one mile.—Osino 1, Charmian 2, Epnuis 3. Also ‘ran: Tremulous, Northern Star, Sautita, and Bountiful. Won easily by two lengths. Time, Imin 43 3-ssec.
GISBORNE SUMMER MEETING. FIRST DAY. Gisborne, February 4. The Summer Meeting of the Gisborne Racing Olnb was commenced to-day in brilliant weather. There was a large attendance and the sum of £3346 was put through the totalisator. Nineteen bookmakers were licensed. Results; — First Hurdles, 1)4 miles. —Te Arai 1, Te Kainui 2, Reservoir 3.
