ALLLEGED CABINET DIFFERENCES.

The Chronicle admits that sharp differences in the Cabinet developed at recent meetings as to the amount to 1 e provided for new construction o;; the naval estimates. The Admiralty propose the immediate addition or 2}6 millions, ’’ncreasing to five millions and six millions in succeeding years. Yiscount Motley and Messrs Lloyd George and Churchill are opposing the scheme, while Messrs McKenna and McNamara, though previously rigid economists, are strongly supporting it. There are rumours of a possible resignation. AN ENGLISHMAN’S HOME. The extraordinary vogue of the play, “An Bnglisman’sj|Home, ”§ is increasing. The author is Major Du Maurier, 'son J of the j famous Punch artist. All the newspapers are publishing special articles and interviews daily, and statesmen are utilising the play for the purpose of rousing the country to the necessity of home defence. THE TERRITORIALS. Lord Esher estimates the deficiency in the Territorials at 16,000. The War Office has removed the King s Colonials from the juridiction of the London County Territorials Association and it becomes a special Imperial unit managed by a Colonial Committee. The deficiency of Territorials is 106,000 not 16,000, COST OF OLD AGE PENSIONS. Mr Hobhouse, Secretary to the Treasury, states that nine millions must be found lor old age pensions.
