HORSESHOE DRAINAGE BOARD.

A meeting of the Trustees was held yesterday. Present: Messrs Hunt (chkirman), Dalton, Thompson, Mudford, and Low, A plan was received from the' ' Sluggish Creek Drainage Board of. the proposed work for restoration of, the Main Drain to a width of/25 feet at top and 34 feet at bottom.— No action taken, the Board being of opinion that the matter would appertain to the hew Board.

The chairman reported that Mr John Sanson had complained that the drain from his pl»ce- hud not been cleaned out 18 inches deep, therefore lie was not prepared to contribute more than £6 the cost. /

The overseer said it had been cleaned out at the opening two feet deep and the average depth was more than eighteen inches. Mr Sanson, apparently wanted the drain deepened 18 inches at a point where it would be useless; it would only make afhole. The other contributors were satisfied with the work done and had paid their quota. Mr Sanson’s leter offering £lO towards the work was referred to, and the Board concluded that all the work asked for in his letter had been completed. The chairman said the contractors had accepted £l4 less than their contract price. The other contributors had just as good a claim to a part of that sum as Mr Sanson. It was ■ decided to apply to the latter for li e full amount.

Mr Young, the overseer, applied for extra remuneration for work that had not been included in his duties at the appointment, especially the overseeing work on the Sluggish Creek. His salary is £lO per year and ho applied for £sj. extra. The amount was passed for The chairman called attention to the necessity of the Sluggish Creek Drain , being cleaned out. If the delay in the amalgamation proceedings continued any longer the work should be undertaken. He stated that Mr Newliian, M.P., had, been requested to ask the Government to accelerate the report on ;the|findlngs of the Commission. ,
