President Roosevelt, by a telegram to Senator Qillett, Governor of California, obtained a delay in acting in regard to the proposed anti-Japanese [legislation, pending thegreceipt of a letter. The telegram added : “The Government is greatly concerned at the Reports on the subject, My knowledge of the international situation satisfies mo that the legislation proposed would do incalculable damage both to Oalifornia and the whole union. ” ANTI-JAPANESE LEGISLATION . TO BE DROPPED. Received January 21, 8.54 i.m. New York, January 20. President Roosevelt’s telegram has induced the majority controlling the Californian legislature to defeat the anti-Japanese legislation on the ground |pf national prudence.
