THE VICTORIAN PREMIER.
A POLICY SPEECH. United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph, Copyright. Received January 20, 10 a.m. Melbourne, January 20.
Mr Murray, Premier, delivered a policy speech. He said there was little prospect of the year closing with a large surplus owing to the heavy reduction in the sum likely to be returned by the Commonwealth. He foreshadowed a loan for reproductive works on the first favourable opportunity. Several measures before the Council at the time of its dissolution would be 1 reintroduced. The programme of Government includes electoral and land reform, including compulsory purchase of large estates for settlement purposes, workers’ compensation, State insurance, establishment of a Government coal mine. If, after his visit to New Zealand the Minister of Lands showed any easier and better road~ to'” extensive and productive laud settlement, Government would not hesitate to follow on the lines of the Dominion.
