THE BROKEN HILL TROUBLE.
United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. Sydney, January 12. A bomb exploded in Block 10 Mine Reserve, but there was no damage done. Failing a settlement before then, Block 10 Mine closes on Thursday, patting an additional 630 men out of employment. 'Tom Mann and the others have been released. The leaders headed a picket procession on Monday. All is at present quiet. The i combined Unions cabled to England and the Continent asking for immediate financial assistance. The President of the Arbitration Court is arranging a separate conference with (jtbe directors of the Proprietary Mine and the men on Thursday, to discuss the trouble. Melbourne, January 12. The Proprietary directors concluded * their meeting to-day, and forwarded a letter to the President of the Arbitration Court. The contents of ti’e‘ letter have not been divulged, but is is understood that the directors insist ou the withdrawal if t■ e pickets, precedent to t lie conference. : NO SETTLEMENT IN SIGHT. BROKEN HILL QUIETER. Received January 18, 9.41 a.m. Sydney, January 13. The Unions declined to withdraw the pickets which was required by the Proprietary precedent;to a conference with Jndge Higgins. Broken Hill was quieter 'yesterday than for many Mays. Proceedings at the Trades Hall lacked enthusiasm. A further trolley load of provisions has been taken to the mine. A small crowd watched the proceedings in silence. One man ’called out an opprobrious name to the driver, and was arrested, hut onlookers made no attempt at rescue.
