United Press Association— By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. London, JannaryflO.
Wallabies (8 tries) defeated England (one try). The ground was in splendid condition, and a very fast game was played. Nearly 20,000 spectators were present. The Wallabies put practically their ’best .team in the field. Moran was absent owing to lameness. A sensational start was made, Mobbs, of Leicester, scoring a brilliant try in the first .minute of the game. Qow obtained a lucky try twenty minutes later, the ball screwing away from the English threequarter, who was trying to touch down. The scores were level at half time. Exciting play was witnessed in the second half. Russell scored a try by following up a high punt. Russell scored another brilliant try at the last minute, after splendid passing by the three quarters. The victory was due chiefly to the splendid scrum work by the forwards who almost invariably secured the ball, thus giving the outsiders many fine openings. WIGAN v. AUSTRALIAN LEAGUE. Wigan (2 goals and 2 tries) defeated the # Australian League (2 goals and 1 try). In the first half Messenger, early in the game, kicked a penalty goal which Walsh converted, and secured a try. Wigan scored an unconverted try. In the second half Wigan added a goal from a try and a penalty goal.
