Mr Thomas S. Weston has been ap pointed Crown Prosecutor at New Plymouthiin place of W. Kerr, whohas been appointed a Magistrate. The Northern Bowling Association’s Champion Fours Tournament opened to-day in dull and threatening weather at Napier. The visitors were cordially welcomed by Mr Mevay, Pieisdent of Napier Club. Thirty-four rinks fare competing, playing being divided between Napier and Greenmeadows greens. The Clan Sutherland, the first Home going wool steamer to berth at Napier breakwater, came alongside to-day being berthed easily alongside the recently extended wharf. To mark the occasion the captain was presented with a gold watch'and one for his wife by Mr J. Vigor Brown, chairman of the Harbour Board. Mr T. MacEenzie, accompanied by Mr Donne, of the Tourist Department, leaves Bluff in the Hinemoa on the 31st for a personal inspection of Milford Sounds tourist track. He will also visit Manaponrl and Wakatipu Lakes before returning to Wellington. A holiday attraction Tor Anniversary Day (January 32nd) will be the Waiata District Athletic Club’sthird annnal sports to be held bh Mr J. D. Balmer’s property. A capital programme is published elsewhere,, consisting of nineteen varied events. Some good cash prizes ;are offered 1 - w i hioh should attract large entries. The horse events include ponvjump, maiden and open hunters’ competitions, tilting on horseback, thread-needle race, obstacle race, and open trot handicap. Nominations are to be in the hands of the secretary 30 minutes before each event.
