THE EARTHQUAKE.
The Prince and Princess Catellacci imprisoned in the ruins of Messina. Within the bowels of the Earth we’ve been, How rjong we know not, in this living tomb, Since night and day are lost 'in sightless gloom. And tell no more the hours as they go bv: So far from, yet so near to men we seem’ We hear their voices, if it he no dream. But no one seeing, and by no one seen In all the depth of this calamity: Yet seem we to ourselves still living beings Within the formless horror of this dark Wherein ourselves we see not, drear and stark Beyond the reach of men’s imaginings ; While each Earth-spasms thrills, in agony, , , , As helpless in the darkness here we lie: Then Jesn Christ! Eternal Son of Goa! Who once for us this Earth in anguish trod. From out this pit of Hell to tliee we ory! Bring ns again from out this lampless night, That we again may praise Thee in the light,. As once more we behold the earth and sky! A.Y.T.
