TRACKED BY CARTOON.
A story of Show a cartoon by “F.O. G. ” in the Gazette was instrumental in bringing ' about the conviction of two burglars was told recently in that journal. Offices at Waterval Boven, an impor- , tant station on the Pfetoria-Loren-to Marques Railway, were broken into, and the thieves attempted to blow open a safe with explosives. They apparently decamped in a hurry, and left behind them several articles, including a fragment of a Westminster Gazette bearing a portion of the cartoon. The police at last came across two suspects, in whose’ possession were found scraps of the Westminster Gazette, including a piece-yxaetly fitting that part Of the cartoon which had been left in the rifled office. ; A trial followed, and the men were sentenced, one to three and the other to four years’ hard labour. ,
