With his left arm being .mangled and lacerated by the claws and cruel teeth of a fierce Indian ,‘leopard, Ernest Lass, a 12-year-old boy, was held a prisoner for several minutes in the grasp of the beast against its cage, while a circus was being unloaded from tbe trains. A largb crowd gathered at the place where the animals were being unloaded from the train, and it is stated a crowd of small hoys amused themselves pestering the animals, ever one became visible, by poking them with sticks. Pevious to the attack on the Lass boy, a big African lion had become enraged at the boys and tried to break through its gate to get at its tormentors. The circus attendants drove the crowd back, hut a short time after the lion had created the excitement, one of the big cats caught Ernest Lass and began to tear with his teeth and claws his arm. The boy stood manfully against the side of the cage while the torture that resulted in the loss of his arm was going on. Tbe animal keepers ran for bars of iron with which to prv loose the leopard’s hold, and it was several minutes before the lad could be released.
