Per Press Association Gisborne, June 23. The Arbitration Court’s rceent award in the lighter’ng dispute, came into force to-day The award provides for the reduction of a penny per hundred in handling mutton and beef, and lees for lambs than the prices previously paid by the Gisborne Sheep Farmers’ Company. Lightermen who have been employed at this work, this morning declined engagement, stating that the rates under the award were not adequate, and they would seek other employment. The Company are employing their permanent men and a number of casuals, and the work of loading the steamer Karamea is proceeding. Gieymouth, June 33. The Union at Otira decided that McLean Bros, be allowed one week to come to a reasonable settlement with the men, failing this all the men will cease work on the 29th inst.
