Mangaweka vfas thrown into a state of profouncLregrefc on Monday morning when nbws came through about 9 a,m. r stating that|Mr”Roberfc Summers had passed away, at his sister-in-law’y residence, Aramoho, bn Sunday. Mjr Swmmers was one of those gentleman that Mangaweka could ill afford to lose. For a considerable number of years he has occupied the position of Chairman of the School Committee. As Secretary of .the Athletic Club, his effects were untiring, and lie has steered the . Club though adverse ,-cicrcumstances, and lauded it high and dry in a satisfactory and financial position. Mr Summers also took a very prominent part in any matter or function appertaining to the advancement of the town, and district. He had been ailing for some time, bat his end was not so suddenly expected. Mr Summers reached the age of 54 years, and leaves a wife, daughter and sou to mourn their loss.

The weather is still very mild and feed for stock is plentiful. The County ranger had a good innings around Mangaweka on Saturday, the result being a large audience at the local pound, where stock was disposed of to their owners at the usual poundage fee. These surprise visits are all right, but they don’t occur often enough. A very funny incident occured at the football match, Managvreka ▼. Taihape.
