The speakers included Mr O. F. Masterrnan (member of the House of Commons), Professor Burrows , r and'Oanon Scott Holland. All emphasised the responsibilities of Capital towards Labou. The Her. F. S. Grin Vade (Melbourne) condemned Socialism, with which Australian labour was identified, as destructive, of the home. Mr J. H. JenkinsJ( Australian )”said capitalists were being squeezed out of Australia to make room for labour capitalists. Canon Stephen (Australian) declared there was ho country in the world where there was a nearer approach to social justice than in Australia where labour moulded and directed legislation. He admitted that no means of dealing with old and slow workers had yet been discovered. He also admitted that men might repudiate unpopular decisions by a Wages Board. Canon Williams (Queensland) also spoke. Sir George Livesey declared that he put no trust in Parliamentary ignoramuses, whose acts produced results exactly the opposite to what they expected. Conciliation, and. Jbitration were equally useless, le only remedy was to make Gapil and Labour partners.
