Dr. Hurst Hollswell, commenting on the result of the Manchester Education Conference, said that he considered the proposed settlement would leave things in a worse and more confused state than at present. Mr Lloyd George informed a deputation from Friendly Societies that Government meant to make membership of aJPriendly Society|a qualiNation for pensions and suggested the adoption of the following sliding scale:—lf a man’s income was 8s he would receive a State pension of ss; if 9s he would receive 4s, andsiTon up to an income of 12s, when Its would .receive Is.
