MIXED UP 193 BABIES.
After the great fire at Chelsea, a suburb of Boston (says the Daily Chronicle’s coirespondent), the authorities were in a quandary in regard to the disposal of 193 babies rescued from the fire. When the outbreak was at its height numbers of these infants were saved by unknown passers-by, or hastily thrust into the arms of strangers by parents bent on attempts to rescue other children. In the confusion that followed, all trace of the relationships of these 193 babies was lost, and now the parents cannot be found. In some cases the parents have probably disappeared with intent, and others were lost in the flames; hut many parents who have made inquiries have not been able to decide which of the youngest babies really belong to them. In several cases the infants were more or less singed by the fire, and that has added to the difficulties of sorting them out to the satisfaction of their proper owners.
